Kyle Hampton models the BNSF model trains so he had to pick up the new Athearn Genesis Dash 9-44CWs in the early BNSF scheme. BNSF had ordered a fleet of Dash 9s in 1997 and had them painted in the superfleet scheme; however, the biggest difference to the earlier Santa Fe 600 – 699 dash 9s was the large BNSF logo on the long hood. Kyle spent a considerable amount of time changing the road number and weathering the model to look like a well worn veteran of the rails.

Kyle also added modern details to this BNSF model locomotive like this PTC antenna array. The faded red paint and grime accumulation to the tops of the roof and nose further tell the story of a unit that has seen many miles on the high iron but very little time at the spray rack.

From the railfan angle, the locomotive’s weathering takes on another impressive view. It’s obvious Kyle pays attention to detail and I’m sure this will not be the last exceptional model train detailing work we see from Kyle.
